mercedes 230 SL

Production of the 230 SL commenced in June 1963 and ended on 5 January 1967. Its chassis was based on the W111 platform, with a reduced wheelbase by 30 cm, recirculating ball steering (with optional power steering), double wishbone front suspension and an independent single-joint, low-pivot swing rear-axle. with transverse compensator spring. The dual-circuit brake system had front disc brakes and power-assisted rear drum brakes.

ONN 465F is a superb example of a 230 SL Roadster, complete with original chassis, engine and factory fitted automatic gearbox all with matching numbers. UK registered from new, not an imported model, the car has been dry stored and is rust free having the original colour for exterior and interior finish. Also benefiting from factory fitted power steering. Having been professionally restored to an extremely high standard by Mercedes Benz specialists Roger Edwards Motors of London, the car is immaculately presented, visually impressive and performs wonderfully thanks to the fully rebuilt engine that was completed by Crewe Engines Limited, widely regarded by classic Mercedes owners as the finest in the UK. In our opinion there is nothing to be done that would add to the cars appeal.

Along with all original books the car has a file containing history dating back to 1965 including the original log books, in addition to receipts from Roger Edwards Mercedes Specialists in excess of £40,000. The car is complimented with period Becker Mexico radio with DAB upgrade, new Mercedes supplied soft top and fully restored black ‘Pagoda’ roof complete with stand and cover, so named as it was thought to resemble the shape of Far Eastern Temples, a design that in 1965 was unique in the motor industry.

The wood inside the car so often replaced with modern substitute is original and restored to its original factory condition. Maintained on a regular basis by Browns of Ryton, the car has been fitted with new suspension, exhaust and has the original and complete tool roll and jack present.
